The Benefits of Face Masks

Whether you prefer the simple ‘cleanse-and-go’ or a multi-step skin care routine, everyone deserves beautiful skin. Face masks are an excellent way to turbo-charge your appearance and give your skin a healthy glow in just 15 minutes.

There are many types of face masks available: sheet masks, clay masks, cream masks, even night masks. They can be water- or clay-based, and each one is designed to target a different skin condition, whether that is reducing blemishes, boosting moisture, or removing dull skin.

Benefits of Sandalwood

Science has proven what our ancestors already knew – that sandalwood is one of nature’s true wellbeing ingredients. Face masks that contain sandalwood oil and powder can dramatically improve your results. There are two main types of sandalwood grown in Australia: Santalum album (Indian Sandalwood) and Santalum spicatum (Australian Sandalwood). Alpha-and beta santalol is the active therapeutic component which gives sandalwood oil its moisturising properties, ideal for use in skincare and cosmetic products. Whilst both species contain alpha- and beta santalol, Indian sandalwood possesses up to three times more than its Australian counterpart. Pure Album oil has been shown to have these qualities:

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Antioxidant

  • Antimicrobial

  • Anti-tyrosinase, which prevents dullness & pigmentation

  • Anti-MMP, which prevents the breakdown of collagen that causes premature ageing and wrinkles

About Time We Met AHA Clay Mask

Here at The Sandalwood Shop, our new About Time We Met AHA clay mask contains both Santalum album powder and oil, drawing on all their beneficial properties. It also contains kaolin clay, which boosts the efficacy of the mask by drawing out impurities, and pineapple and kiwi fruit extracts for a gentle exfoliation. Together, these ingredients create a delicious-smelling, natural mask that:

  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines

  • Visibly improves skin tone, radiance, and texture

  • Soothes and brightens skin tone

  • Purifies your pores

How-To Use

The About Time We Met AHA clay mask is very simple to use. Just follow these 5 steps:

  • Step 1: Cleanse your face and pat the skin dry

  • Step 2: Apply the mask evenly, avoiding the eye and lip area

  • Step 3: Leave for 10–15 minutes and allow the beneficial ingredients to be absorbed

  • Step 4: Rinse with warm water

  • Step 5: Apply your usual serums and moisturisers to complete your skincare routine

  • For best results, use 1–2 times per week

DIY Mask

If you have a bit more time on your hands and want to try your hand at using all-natural ingredients, why not make your own face mask? Your skin will thank you for it.

Here is a quick and easy recipe for glowing skin:

Combine 1 tbsp of sandalwood powder with either rose water, milk, or a hydrosol of your choice. Add the liquid to the powder in small amounts and mix until a smooth paste is formed then apply to your skin using the steps listed above. Simple.

If you want to get a little fancy, you can even add ½ tsp of turmeric powder to the paste for an extra brightening boost.

We recommend using a high quality powder, such as our extra fine pure Album or pure Spicatum powders, to ensure you are getting all the benefits of sandalwood in your mask.

If you enjoyed making this mask, then you will be delighted to know that sandalwood powder can also be used in body lotions and exfoliators too. The options as endless!
