Frequently asked questions about the use of sandalwood facial serums Find out everything you need to know.

What are skincare serums?

A face serum is a lightweight skincare product that contains a higher concentration of active ingredients (such as Hyaluronic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Vitamin C), compared to typical facial moisturisers.

What is the purpose of a face serum?

Known for their effectiveness, face serums are often used to manage specific skin concerns such as wrinkles, acne, dry skin and dullness. They are designed to brighten, hydrate and provide a variety of benefits, depending on the types of serum you use.

Why are serums necessary?

Ultimately, face serum and moisturiser are both necessary for a complete skin care routine and to ensure that your skin doesn't dry out during the day. Moisturisers can't replace face serums, as they don’t give your skin the extra vitamins and nutrients like a serum does for your skin to look great for years to come.

One of the most striking benefits of face serums is their ability to help lock moisture into the skin. Formulas with ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid can improve the moisture content of the skin whilst strengthening the skin barrier for a hydrated and healthy-looking complexion.

How often should I use a face serum?

To achieve optimal results a face serum can safely be applied every day.

Is it ok to just use serum without moisturiser?

You can but you don't have to. Serums and moisturisers help the skin in different ways. For some, particularly those who do not have dry skin, a serum alone will be enough. At other times, when your skin is dry or the environment is drying like sitting in an airconditioned office, you will find that you need both a serum and a moisturiser. If your skin is oily, a serum may give you enough hydration that you won't need a moisturiser.

Do you put serum or moisturiser first?

The general rule of thumb when applying skincare products is to apply the lightest products first and the heaviest last, which is typically serum first, then moisturiser.

How long should I leave serum on my face?

Let the serum properly settle into your skin before applying your moisturiser. The recommended time is usually 4-5 minutes. You know your serum is doing a good job when it is seamless –– this means no oily residue or tackiness post application.

When can you apply your face serum?

Face serum can be applied during the day and at night. Apply a serum after cleansing your face and pat drying. If you are applying serum at night, make sure not to layer too much. Night cream or moisturiser can form a heavy layer.

Is it better to pat or rub serum onto your skin?

Applying serums is a whole different ball game. For starters, rubbing it onto your face is not advised. Serums should be pressed and patted into the skin so that it can fully absorb all the benefits.

Follow our simple steps to ensure you're getting the most out of your About Time We Met Radiance Serum.

  • Step 1 - After washing your face Dispense between 2-3 drops into the palm of your hand, making sure the pipet doesn’t touch your skin as this can transfer bacteria.

  • Step 2 - Without rubbing the formula into your hands, place your fingers into the serum and pat it onto your skin.

  • Step 3 - Press, don’t massage in the remaining serum and wait for a couple of minutes until completely absorbed. You can now apply your moisturiser.

Serums are new to The Sandalwood Shop range with this product being a 98% natural formulation with a 100% natural fragrance.
